The 2019 season was an awesome time for our football players and cheerleaders. The Clinton Little Devils Association, Inc as well as the community salutes these teams for their hard work and dedication to their teams.
Flag Football
We were invited by the SC Midlands league to participate in the NFL Flag Football season. We conducted a vote by the players of their favorite NFL teams and the Pittsburgh Steelers received the most votes. We had two teams and traveled twice to play in Sumter as well as two home games. So much fun!!! Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, the NFL Flag Football season was cancelled this year.
Tackle Football
This was our first year with the Tiny Mite football team. These sweet, yet determined boys ages 5-7 were led by head coach James (JR) Baker and assistant coaches Davaris Dorrah, Joseph Shockley and Joshua Shockley. The coaches provided a nurturing, yet firm style of training for this group of first time players. We are looking forward to a better season in 2020 with some of our first time players returning as well as a few new players joining the team.
The Mitey Mite team (ages 7-9) led by head coach Travis Peake had an impressive season. The confidence level was elevated with each game played. Most of the Mitey Mite team will move up to the Junior Pee Wee or 10U team in 2020. Coach Peake will be moving to either the Jr. Pee Wee or 10U team in 2020.
The Junior Pee Wee team (ages 8-11) led by head coach Greg Conner and assistant coaches James Roberson, Ericka Watts and Calvin Williams. This team worked hard and gave it their all. With many returning in 2020, we look forward to a more experienced team motivated to make it to the playoff games. The team mom for the Jr. Pee Wee team was Wendy Grant.
The Pee Wee (ages 9-12) team led by head coach Shawn Calhoun and assistant coach Robert Smith. These young boys played hard. They were the 2019 SC Midlands Pop Warner Division III Pee Wee Champions and were invited to play in the first round of playoffs in North Carolina. While they did not win, the experience was incredible for the players, coaches and the organization overall. In 2020, there will not be a designated Pee Wee team, rather we will have a 12U team, ages 10-12, unlimited weight. The team mom for the Pee Wee team was Kim Butler.
Cheerleaders
This was our first year for the Tiny Mite cheerleaders (ages 5-7) who were led by Coach Dicie Copeland. Even though we lost a couple of girls along the way, we had four who hung in to the very end and participated in the exhibition portion of the SC Midlands cheer competition receiving participation medals for their performance. We will have the Tiny Mite cheerleaders in 2020.
The Mitey Mite cheerleaders (ages 7-9) led by Coach Sherry Hurley were successful in competing in the SC Midlands competition and captured 1st place in the competition. Although they were unable to attend the Regional competition, they did earn that spot to attend. We are looking forward to another successful season in 2020 under the direction of Coach Dicie Copeland.
While we did not have a Junior Pee Wee cheer team (ages 8-11), the Mitey Mite and Pee Wee cheerleaders would cheer for the Jr. Pee Wee team for some of the games. We will be working hard to establish a Jr. Pee Wee and/or 10U cheer team for the 2020 season.
The Pee Wee cheerleaders (ages 9-12) led by Coach Kisha Redd were dynamic in their performances throughout the season. While we searched for an experience coach for our cheerleaders, we didn't find anyone willing to coach on a regular basis. Kisha Redd was asked to step in and help the girls. She agreed and with the help of Deborah Anderson (parent at all the practices) and Shana Beston, Head Cheering Coach for Presbyterian College (observed practices and made recommendations), the girls placed first in the SC Midlands Pop Warner Cheer Competition Pee Wee Small. This allowed them to advance to the Regional Competition in Virginia Beach, Virginia where they placed third!!
